Mother’s Day

As Mother’s Day 2012 approached, we at knew we wanted to do something special to honor all the mothers and mother figures that our site visitors have lost. There are many things that can vividly remind us of a loved one who has died – a favorite recipe, a beloved item of clothing – but perhaps the most cherished is a photograph.

Diana L. Hare

We asked members of our grief support site LegacyConnect, as well as our friends and fans on Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ to share with us photos of their mothers or mother figures who have passed away. The response was wonderful – we’ve received more than 130 photos to date – and the photos have been absolutely lovely. From vintage photos of Mom as a young woman to the last picture of her before she died, happy family portraits to candids of Mom doing the things she loved best, the photos have touched us and made us smile.

'My darling mother Dorothy'

We’d like to thank our users for helping make our Mother’s Day tribute so beautiful, and we’d like to encourage you to visit the album, and share photos of your own, on LegacyConnect.

'My favorite photo of my Nana, Matilda Cole Hoyle - she was about 16 here - it was taken in Blackpool, England. She passed in 2011 after living 98 years. A lady ahead of her time, she is missed by all who had the pleasure to know and love her.'

Whether you’re celebrating with loved ones or quietly remembering someone who is gone too soon, we wish you a peaceful Mother’s Day.

About Linnea

I joined in 2000 as an obituary writer. In the years since, I've done a little of everything for our Operations team, from content review to customer service to creating web pages for funeral homes to training new employees to my current position, Content Manager. I love this position, because I get to write little bits & longer pieces - whatever's needed at the moment - and I get to proofread a lot, satisfying my inner nitpicker. And I love being on the blog team, because I get to write interesting features for the blog. I love to write! In my spare time, I... can you guess?... write. I'm hoping that one day I can add "published novelist" to my bio. I also enjoy working in my vegetable garden and cooking, baking, canning, making ice cream, and pretty much anything else in the kitchen. I love to read, compete in trivia contests, and attempt to keep up with my Netflix queue.
